After two weeks of sunshine, strawberries and crisp tennis whites during Wimbledon, we caught up with Hollie Bees, Manchester and Cheshire based tennis player and coach who loves all things sport, fitness and health related. Hollie shares her barrecore experience and why it’s such a complementary form of exercise to tennis.
barrecore lovers, add tennis to your exercise regime and keep the passion for tennis alive all summer long!
As a tennis coach and player, I’m always looking for new ways to maintain and improve clients’ and my own fitness levels and endurance. So, when I was asked to join the Alderley Edge Barrecore team for my first ever barrecore session, I was understandably very excited.
barrecore is a rapidly growing ballet inspired workout regime which fuses elements of ballet, pilates and yoga all into one. I had heard so much about how effective Barrecore sessions were, with clients seeing amazingly quick results from the full-body workouts- I just had to have a go myself.
Unsure what to expect, I was excited and nervous to try my hand at barrecore, but Sarah Emblow and her lovely team at the studio in Alderley Edge gave me such a warm welcome, I felt completely at ease and ready to go. Within just a few minutes of starting my session, I could see why so many people love Barrecore and how useful this workout could be for tennis players and coaches like me.
I was given a choice of workout variations I could do in the session and decided on the barrecoreMIXED workout, which targeted all my major muscle groups by doing core strength and bodyweight exercises. There are also barrecore sessions with more of a cardio, HIIT or flexibility focus for those really looking to sweat.
Impressed doesn’t cover how I felt following the session! Sarah led me through the workout explaining each technique clearly and focusing on good, precise form without ever slowing the session’s pace or intensity. Despite only concentrating on bodyweight exercises and micro-movements, before I knew it I was sweating it out and could feel it really working in the muscles that matter when I’m on the court.
Almost all the barrecore movements require full body engagement, which is why I can see how it would benefit a tennis player or coach greatly! It’s such an excellent workout for core strength, stability and endurance.
If you’re a tennis player looking to improve your endurance, build long lean muscle or just lose a little weight, I would thoroughly recommend barrecore. I’m most certainly a convert and will be booking my next session as soon as possible so I can keep fit on and off the court.
